A resident was furious to see what seemed like Umtshezi Municipality staff off-loading rubbish in Tenth Avenue, Forderville on Wednesday, November 18.
At about 7:30am, the resident was passing by when the scene that unfolded in front of her struck her as odd.
“So, this is where the municipality vehicle is parked…off-loading rubbish in a residential area, early in the morning,” commented the resident. She added: “The staff member is urinating and when asked to move he said ‘no, I must wait’, with an attitude. The government employs people who abuse our tax money and our environment,” vented the resident.
A request was made for the Estcourt News to investigate. Photos and the reader’s comments were sent to Acting Municipal Manager Elphas Dladla.
“Please note that the municipal vehicles was not off-loading rubbish but was collecting the rubbish that was thrown there by residents,” said Mr Dladla. This area is an illegal dumping hot spot and rubbish can be seen slowly creeping onto the road surface.
