Officials have stepped up patrols, following a spate of vandalism.
Targeted areas included Heuwel Avenue and other various spots in Hutten Heights and down Victoria Avenue in the past month.
Stop signs appeared to bear the brunt of the vandalism.
However, the damage has also been visited upon mounted lights, intercoms, advertising boards, garden decorations, water features and saplings.
“It is a worry; we are covered by insurance but have to pay the excess.”
Residents pondered the mentality of vandals, and speculated the increase in damage was linked to examinations beginning at schools.
Another resident has CCTV footage of supposed teen perpetrators.
“That alone can send them to juvenile prison.”
Chief Traffic Officer, Ashok Anandhaw said temporary stop signs were established while the new signage was awaited – these signs have since been replaced.
He further lamented the prevailing bad attitude of drivers and residents.
“We have traffic calming in place, but these are removed or not obeyed by some.”
In South Africa, statistics showed vandalism is on the increase.
Perpetrators should note that if caught, they could face a fine, time behind bars, or may be sued directly by owners of the property.
