Arbor Park Sports and Academic Prize Giving
Arbor Park held their annual awards evening to celebrate, inspire and give recognition for the hard work of the pupils who had done the school proud with their excellence in academics, culture, sport and leadership.
Another year, another crop of achievers and awards at Arbor Park Primary. Recently, Arbor Park held their annual awards evening to celebrate, inspire and give recognition for the hard work of the pupils who had done the school proud with their excellence in academics, culture, sport and leadership.
The school was honoured by the attendance of Martin Khumalo, the CES of the Department of Education, Newcastle Circuit, Amajuba District, who presented the achievers with their awards. Notable awards on the the evening included academic, culture and sport.
In keeping with tradition, Arbor Alumni were in attendance to give a message to the pupils, and this year it took the form of Rochelle Bierma and Wikus Jooste, singing a touching message to the Grade 7 pupils.
The guest speaker for the evening was a break in tradition. Where Alumni were previously invited to speak along the theme the school was setting out for the coming year, this year, for the first
time in her 20 years at the school, Principal Pam de Jager addressed the pupils, staff and honoured guests. The theme for 2016 has been selected as creativity and innovation and Mrs de Jager could not have been a more appropriate speaker.
Having revolutionised the classroom with the help of technological innovations in her years at the helm, Mrs de Jager gave a thought-provoking message on the future of the job market and the need for all pupils to expand their minds and interests to flourish in a future that is more uncertain today, than it has ever been.
Drawing on inspiration from figures like Steve Jobs and Anna Wintour, Mrs de Jager urged those present to: “Remember that everything is connected, that solutions to the problems of this world will come from creative thinking. That is how you will be prepared for the future to come, how you will flourish and how you will solve the many problems we face in an uncertain future.”
A future that Arbor Park has been preparing its pupils for, with innovative excellence, and will continue to do so.
