A 52-year-old man travelling along the N3 on Sunday afternoon was hijacked at gunpoint by two hitchhikers.
The driver stopped at Frere to give two people a lift. The hitchhikers told the man they needed a lift to Harrismith and convinced the man not to stop on the N3 because there were supposedly traffic police there.
The man took the Colenso/Winterton off-ramp and stopped.
One of the men then produced a firearm and threatened the driver. The two suspects fled the scene in the vehicle, a white Isuzu double-cab with registration number WHR411GP.
