On Monday, December 7 a 44-year-old man appeared before the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court facing a charge of assault.

It is alleged that on Saturday, December 5 at about 6pm, a 61-year-old woman was at her home in Zwelisha watching television when she heard pots falling in the kitchen.

Making her way to the kitchen door, the women asked who was there, when her son appeared and responded to her question. He thereafter took a knife and stabbed his mother in the head.

The woman was taken to the hospital to be treated for the injury. The 44-year-old suspect was arrested and a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was registered and is currently under investigation by Wembezi police.
