A communal home in FW Beyers Avenue, Barry Hertzog Park, has come under scrutiny after it played host to a party of note last Wednesday.
Allegedly, the party started during the late hours of the afternoon.
By 6pm, music blared from the home and crowds of people loitered in the street, holding liquor bottles.
As neighbours feared for their safety, police were eventually contacted to put a stop to the raucousness.
Upon arrival at 8pm, police found people drinking in public, and discovered several of them were under age.
“When we arrived, we found a lot of people under the influence of alcohol and the music was so loud that none of the neighbours would have been able to sleep,” said a police source on the scene.
Partygoers dispersed shortly after the arrival of the police, but residents in the area still wanted the municipality to take steps against owners of communal homes.
“Communal homes in the area are getting totally out of hand. There are always people loitering around and you don’t know if they are boarding at a communal home or potential burglars,” said one resident, who wished to remain anonymous.
The municipality was contacted for comment regarding requirements to run a communal home, but none was forthcoming at the time of publication.
