Newcastle Regional Court convicted and sentenced Siphokuhle Mthombeni to life imprisonment for house robbery and rape, last Friday.
His co-accused, Musawenkosi Lahleni, was sentenced in July this year after he was found guilty on the same charges.
The third suspect, Thando Zitha, will be sentenced on 15 January 2016 by the Newcastle Regional Court for the same offences.
The three suspects entered an oSizweni household in April 2013, where they raped and robbed a woman, before fleeing.
The Newcastle Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences led the investigations that led to the arrest of the three accused.
The Police Commissioner in KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended the sentence.
“We would like to reiterate that sexual predators have no place in our society, except spending their future behind bars. We highly praise the detective who intensively investigated this case and managed to secure this sentence,” she said.
