Ladysmith police are investigating the origin of a large amount of counterfeit R100 notes that were recently seized.
Two people aged 28 and 25 have been detained for questioning after counterfeit R100 notes to the value of R43,500 were found in their possession on December 25 and 28 respectively.
The counterfeit notes were used at local businesses in town during two separate incidents.
The suspects face charges of fraud.
The 28-year-old briefly appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Tuesday), while the 25-year-old is set to appear in court today.
It is unknown how many of these notes are currently in circulation, so all business owners are requested to pay particular attention to any R100 notes being offered.
The counterfeit notes all bear the same serial number, namely AM3665810D.
