Various Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Units in KwaZulu-Natal arrested over 350 suspects during the month of December last year. During that period, 25 convictions were achieved, which includes maximum sentences.
The suspects were arrested for various sexual-related offences, and the passionate and dedicated teams of detectives have been attending different courts throughout the province to ensure that the accused are prosecuted accordingly.
From December 1 to 31, a total of 363 suspects were arrested for various cases such as rape, sexual assault, kidnapping, assault GBH, attempted rape and abduction.
KZN Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, applauded these successes with a sense of accomplishment and expressed her confidence in the justice system which handed down fitting sentences to these criminals.
“The sentences will send a clear message to would-be offenders that police will trace, arrest and make sure they present a thorough investigated docket to court for prosecution. KwaZulu-Natal police will attempt, with all its efforts, to prevent crimes against women and children, and make the province a safer place for everyone,” she said.
