Elderly woman murdered in Madadeni

Police are investigating the murder of an elderly woman who was allegedly found stabbed at her home.

Madadeni police are investigating the murder of an elderly woman, which occurred at home at Section 5 Madadeni on January 12.

Allegedly, Warrant Officer JM Xulu discovered the body of a woman believed to be between the age of 50 and 56 at 2.40am.

She reportedly sustained a single stab wound to the chest. Other injuries included a cut and bruises to her forehead.

W/O Xulu proceeded to gather evidence in an effort to identify the deceased. He recovered her cellphone, and called the last number she dialled earlier that morning.

The investigation led police to Madadeni Provincial Hospital, where he met with the person who was last in contact with the deceased. After confirming crucial details, W/O Xulu returned to the scene of the crime.

The owner of the house, a 52-year-old woman, later confessed to the murder. The suspect claimed the victim attacked her, armed with pepper spray as her weapon of choice. In an attempt to defend herself, she stabbed the victim.

The perpetrator was later arrested and charged for murder at Madadeni Police Station. She recently made her first appearance before a local court.

W/O Xulu was commended by fellow officers on securing an immediate arrest.

Police investigations continue.
