Police in the KwaZulu-Natal province have been working hard to trace and arrest criminals involved in various crimes in this province. During the week January 11 to 18, a total of 1582 suspects were arrested for various crimes during ‘Operation Fiela’. These include 42 arrests for murder and 13 for attempted murder.
56 arrests were made for robbery, while 232 people were arrested for assault. Also included in the arrests were 78 for burglary and 30 for drinking in public or being drunk in a public place.
In addition, 423 suspects were arrested for drug-related crimes, 53 for driving under the influence of alcohol and 15 for possession of illegal firearms. During these operations, police recovered 26 stolen or hijacked vehicles, 28 firearms and 275 rounds of ammunition.
KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, encouraged the community to continue with their support in the fight against crime by providing information regarding any criminal activities in their neighbourhoods.
“It is these people who make the difference in creating a safer community for everyone,” she said.
She also commended all the men and women in blue who worked so effectively in executing this successful operation.
