A senseless act of vandalism left the owner of a business in Allen Street amped to find the culprit.
Carel van der Merwe and his staff were about to open their store this morning, when they saw broken eggs scattered at the entrance of the shop.
“This is the second time this has happened to me. Last January, whoever was responsible used paint and eggs,” Mr van der Merwe said.
However, he claimed to be determined to find the person responsible.
“I managed to get the culprit on CCTV footage. While I cannot see her face, it is a woman with a scarf wrapped around her head and she was breaking the eggs at the entrance of my store at 7.20pm on Tuesday night (January 19),” he explained.
Refusing to let the matter slide, Mr van der Merwe contacted the SAPS.
“I have opened a case with the police and I intend to approach other businesses in the street so that we can check their CCTV footage, and see where the woman came from and where she went to after she had finished breaking the eggs at my store,” he said.
Mr van der Merwe believed jealousy may have been a motive for the vandalism.
“Jealousy burns at a person, but I think it is a shame they have wasted food. There are so many people who are starving; why not rather feed them? If you have a problem with me, rather come and see me and we can talk about it like adults,” concluded Mr van der Merwe.
