A day to commemorate famous battles of the Anglo Zulu War

The 137th anniversary of two world famous Anglo Zulu War

Today – the 22nd January – is the anniversary of three epic battles that were fought during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879: Nyezane, Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift.
The Defence of Rorke’s Drift – epitomised in the blockbuster movie “Zulu” – has resulted in this remote corner of KwaZulu- becoming a tourist icon, while the Battle of Isandlwana was depicted in an equally famous movie called “Zulu Dawn”.

Tomorrow will see a re-enactment of the battle of Isandlwana featuring the Dundee Diehard Redcoats and the Zulu amabutho. Today, there will be a football match at Rorke’s Drift with the Zulu Zebras taking on the Redcoats.
