Community accosts murder suspect

Madadeni Crime Prevention Unit received a tip-off that members of the community had accosted the suspect, and taken him back to the scene of the crime.

Madadeni police are currently investigating the murder of a 17-year-old boy.

The follows a report to police by the staff of Madadeni Provincial Hospital on November 26, 2015 about a stabbing incident.

The victim sustained a fatal stab wound to the neck, and was later identified by his family.

A man, believed to be 35 years old, fled the scene and managed to evade arrest.

On January 18, the Madadeni Crime Prevention Unit received a tip-off that members of the community had accosted the suspect, and taken him back to the scene of the crime.

Police claimed the community was intent on murdering the suspect as punishment for his actions.

A team was dispatched immediately, and arrested the man before the vigilantes could inflict any harm.

The suspect appeared before the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court on January 19.

The incident remains subject to police investigation.
