Operations to seize all illegal firearms in the hands of criminals continue to yield excellent results in the province.
The results of recent operations were prolific, with 41 unlicensed firearms recovered in one week. The operations were carried out from January 16 to 23 in all KZN Clusters.
The unlicensed firearms include 31 pistols, four homemade guns, two shotguns and four rifles. 208 live rounds of ammunition were also recovered.
A total of 46 suspects were charged for possession of unlicensed firearms. They appeared in various magistrate’s courts around the province.
“We will not rest until we recover all illegal firearms in our province. We are warning all those who possess illegal firearms to surrender them to local police stations,” said KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
