Ladysmith police targeted drug-related crimes over the weekend, resulting in the arrest of six people.
On Friday, a 24-year-old suspect was arrested in Forbes Street after police found nine whole tablets, four half tablets and a quarter tablet of mandrax. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is around R725.
On the same day, police received information which led officers to a tuck shop in the Limit Hill area. A 36-year-old suspect was arrested after dagga was found, as well as unlicensed liquor. The suspect faces charges of possession of dagga and selling liquor without a licence.
Police continued the clamp-down on Sunday at the taxi rank in Lyell Street, where a 27-year-old suspect was arrested after 64 parcels of dagga were seized, weighing about 212 grams. The estimated street value of the dagga is R350.
On the same day at the same taxi rank, a 25-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of dagga. Around 88 grams of dagga was seized with an estimated street value of R150.
Another suspect, aged 59, was arrested in the same place in possession of 13 parcels of dagga. The dagga weighed around 243 grams with an estimated street value of R450.
Police then moved their operation to the Steadvillle area, where a 37-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of dagga. 19 dagga ‘slopes’ were seized, weighing a few grams each. The estimated street value of the dagga is around R50.
All suspects appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Monday).
