Businessman arrested for attempted murder

Trying to protect his business, an alteration ensued between the owner and the alleged two robbers, one of whom sustained a serious gunshot wound.

A man has been arrested for attempted murder following an armed robbery at Terminus Street in Newcastle CBD, on January 15.

A businessman had just locked the doors to his shop, when he was approached by two men allegedly armed with a gun, who demanded entry to his shop, said police spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela.

Trying to protect his business, an altercation ensued between the owner and the alleged two robbers, one of whom sustained a serious gunshot wound.

“He was later transported to hospital where he was treated for his injuries,” said Capt. Magudulela.

The business owner was arrested and charged for attempted murder. He is still in police custody, awaiting a trial date.

Investigations continue.
