Celebrating National Police Day with Colonel Luvuno

“I am always on a mission to ensure that there is a significant decline in crime wherever I am located,”

Yesterday South Africa celebrated and remembered the sacrifices our men and women in blue have made, and are still making, to ensure a safer and crime free country.
One such person who takes the fight against crime very seriously is the new station commander of Vryheid SAPS, Col James Luvuno.
Colonel Luvuno has been with the SAPS since 1988 and was transferred to Vryheid in December last year.
Fighting crime has always been a major priority for Col Luvuno and he has a record of crime fighting in Kingsley, Madadeni (Newcastle), Paulpietersburg, Nquthu, Empangeni and Nongoma to prove it.
“I am always on a mission to ensure that there is a significant decline in crime wherever I am located,” said the Colonel, who has served mostly as visible policing commander in the different places he has worked.
He believes that there needs to always be someone with a firm hand leading the police and, as such, has already started sending out Vryheid’s police on regular patrols and raids to the areas best known as Vryheid’s crime hot-spots.
Colonel Luvuno has discontinued the practice of allowing police officers to take company vehicles home.
This, he says will ensure that there is never a case of, “We will attend to the matter as soon as a van is available,” in the instance of an urgent crime situation.
He added that this would help save money, as there would be less petrol consumption costs.
In conclusion, Col Luvuno pointed out that it was very important for any police officer to take their job seriously.
“The aim of being employed by the SAPS is to prevent crime. Each SAPS employee should make this their number one priority,” he said.
