
Three people were arrested and charged after a security guard at the hospital found them in possession with meat products.
The suspects, aged 23, 25 and 29 were exiting Estcourt Provincial Hospital last Thursday at about 6.45pm when the vehicle was stopped and search by security personnel.
“Inside the vehicle, meat products to the value of R700 were found. Police were called and the three were arrested,” commented police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.
One of the suspects is allegedly a hospital employee and police suspect that the meat products were stolen from the hospital.
“Investigation into the ownership of the meat is still underway,” said Captain Struwig.
The three suspects appeared briefly in the Estcourt Magistrates Court on Monday, January 18 and were released on bail.
They face charges of possession of suspected stolen property and theft.
