Ladysmith Visible Policing officers confiscated over 500 bottles of liquor on Thursday during crime prevention activities aimed at combating the sale of liquor at unlicensed premises. During the operation, police searched a premises in Roosboom which was allegedly being used as a shebeen.
During the search, police seized 549 bottles / containers of liquor with an estimated value of R5000, plus 33 empty bottles.
A 28-year-old man was arrested for selling liquor without a licence. He paid an admission of guilt fine of R3000.
Operations such as these are in place to ensure compliance with the Liquor Act and also help police address the root causes of more serious offences which are committed as a result of liquor use or abuse.
