Elderly man killed as taxi war re-ignites
The death has sent shock waves through the clan and a heavy police presence is expected at the funeral
Yet another victim died on Tuesday morning in the ongoing taxi war between the Mabaso and Gumede clans.
The man was shot dead in the Qinisa area of Ezakheni.
The victim, a 75-year-old whose name has not been released, is believed to be the father of one of the top soldiers in the Mabaso clan.
He was gunned down at his homestead.
A man approached the homestead and was confronted by a female occupant of the household. Realising the man was armed, she directed him to another family member’s homestead nearby. The man left and moments later riddled the other homestead with bullets from an assault rifle. The homestead was empty at the time.
After realising the homestead was empty, the gunman returned and found a 75-year-old man at the original homestead. He gunned him down in cold blood.
