During the past two weeks, police have recovered a large amount of drugs as well as a firearm and ammunition.

Rock cocaine to the value of R3 000 was recovered from a premises in the Nkwezela section in Wembezi on Friday, February 5.

Acting on a tip-off, police proceeded to the premises where 22 pieces of rock cocaine were found.

A 45-year-old was arrested and charged with dealing in drugs. The suspect appeared briefly in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court, the case has been remanded to later this month.

In Alexandra Street last Tuesday a 28-year-old man was stopped and searched and found in possession of 24 mandrax tablets.

“He briefly appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, facing charges of being in possession of dangerous dependence producing drugs,” commented police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.

The case has also been remanded to later this month. A 54-year-old man was also arrested and appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court after police recovered a 9mm pistol and 22 rounds of unlicensed ammunition, including two magazines in the Moyeni area, Upper Tugela just after midnight on Thursday, February 11.

“Later that same morning, police officers pounced on a premises in the Amangwe area where they arrested a 35-year-old suspect who was found in possession of 150 kilograms of dagga,” explained Captain Struwig.

The female suspect was charged with being in possession of dagga, which has an estimated street value of R50 000 and is due to appear in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court soon.
