House burgled in Protea Drive
The burglars took a safe containing cash and jewellery

In broad daylight, just after 1pm this afternoon (Friday), a house in Protea Drive was burgled.
The owner of the house, Mr Pachkowdie, arrived home only to find that a burglary had taken place. He immediately contacted the police before walking around the property to see what had been taken.
The house has been under repairs for the past few weeks due to hail damage. According to the homeowner, contractors assigned to the municipality have not installed functional locking systems. Mr Pachkowdie stated that they have been living in this condition for just over three weeks now. Numerous appeals have been made to workers to complete the doorway, as the family have been living in fear.
Mr Pachkowdie’s wife, who is a cancer patient, travels to Pietermaritzburg on a weekly basis for her treatment. She left home early this morning. Little did she realise she would return to a home that had been ransacked.
The intruders got into the house via a side entrance, removed a burglar guard gate and bent the door handle to gain entry to the house. Ignoring electrical appliances, the robbers threw over wardrobes and cupboards. It appears that the intruders knew exactly what they were looking for – a safe containing money and jewellery was stolen.
The Pachkowdie family have been living in their home for just over six years and this is the first time a break-in has taken place, making them feel that the new road leading to Ezakheni is leading to criminal activity.
The family asked neighbours if they had seen intruders on their property. The neighbours said they had not seen or heard anything.
A case of housebreaking is being investigated by police.
