Sensational sporting weekend for DHS
Hockey and Rugby first teams performed exceptionally well this weekend.
Victorious DHS hockey champions trump all opponents at Spar Tournament
On February 20, the DHS first team boys travelled to St Dominic’s to take part in the annual pre-season SPAR Tournament. This day also marked the official opening of the first Astro Turf in Northern Natal. Nerves and adrenaline ran high as the boys challenged schools in the district. They played exceptional hockey and won the whole tournament under the dedicated guidance of Blessing Khumalo (or Mr K, as he is fondly known) and proud H Raffenberg. The boys won all their games and had the following scores – Vryheid 1-0, Ferrum 2-1, Pionier 7-0, St Doms 2-0 and Ladysmith 2-0. Andile Ntshangase was awarded best mid-fielder of the tournament and Nathi Mazibuko was recognized as the best striker. Overall, this tournament ended on a high note for the beginning of the hockey season and DHS is excited to see what this team’s dedication, passion and hard work will produce.
On February 20, the DHS first team rugby boys faced opponents from Welkom High at the Sarel Rugby day. They were extremely excited to get the season started under the watchful eye of their coach, Mr Smit. They won their game and no one other than Thabani Mnisi could be named man of the match for this eventful day!
