6 suspects arrested with dagga

Six suspects appeared in the Ezakheni and Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Thursday) for possession of dagga.
Three of the suspects were arrested on Wednesday afternoon by the Ladysmith Visible Policing Section. Acting on information that people were transporting dagga on the Newcastle road (N11), the officers rushed out to a hiking spot where they arrested the three suspects, aged between 28 and 54. The total value of the recovered dagga is R60,000.
Then, on Wednesday evening, Ezakheni police officers arrested another three suspects for possession of dagga.
The officers were busy with crime prevention activities which led them to a house in Ezakheni A-Section. On arrival, they arrested a 40-year-old man after dagga was found hidden in an ice-cream container.
In a second house in the same section, police arrested a 47-year-old man after dagga was found hidden in a pot. This was followed by the arrest of a 21-year-old man at the same house. He was also found in possession of dagga.
KZN Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commented that, “We will clamp down on drugs in our province. Our officers will follow up on all information about criminal activities to make sure those involved are caught and brought to book.”
