The past week was a busy one for the grade four to seven classes of St Gregory Primary School. The end of the first term is drawing near and therefore it is time for the senior excursions. Great care is being taken with the planning of these events as to stay in line with what is being taught in the syllabus at school to maximise the learning experience.

The grade five and seven learners started off the excursions on Tuesday, March 1. They went to Giants Castle for an adventurous hike up to the Main Caves Museum. Once reaching the caves the learners were given a guided tour of the caves and were educated more about the San and their paintings.

The learners thoroughly enjoyed this experience and learning more about the San as well as appreciating nature. On Wednesday, March 2 the grade sixes went on an excursion to Highmoor Nature Reserve. The picture perfect day began with a 4km hike, where they learnt about the ecosystem of the Drakensberg area, to the Aasvoëlkrans Cave. Here they enjoyed a snack and then cooled off under the waterfall.
This was a first time experience for all of the grade six learners and shrieks of delight could be heard above the fall of the water. A joyful group of hikers returned to school with plenty of stories about their adventure together. Thank you to Mr Snow for sharing your knowledge of the area with us, we thoroughly enjoyed it!

The grade four class went on Friday, March 4, on an outing to Ford Durnford and Glamosa Glass. At Ford Durnford they learnt about the history of the fort and its surrounding area since they recently did local history in class. At Glamosa Glass they got to see how different glass products are made. Great fun was had by all.
