Workers protest sacking of acting municipal manager
More municipal drama is expected at 10am today when a special Council meeting is to be held

Angry municipal workers have gathered outside the Endumeni Municipality yesterday to voice their discontent over the axing of acting municipal manager, T. Makhoba,
They have also demanded that Corporate Services Manager, Martin Hlangani, be suspended. Mr Nhlangani is being investigated for alleged nepotism over the appointment of staff at the municipality.
The workers downed tools shortly after lunchtime to gather outside the municipality. At one stage, acting municipal manager, Bonga Mkhize, tried to speak to the workers but she was drowned out.
Workers also want their salary scales re-graded as they claim that this should have been done some years ago.
Police at the scene were also subject to insults and at one stage police said the workers would have to disperse as it was an illegal gathering.
Tempers were raised but in the end, a committee of protesting workers was elected to go inside the building to meet with management.
Round two is expected at 10am today when the report into Mr Hlangani’s alleged misdemeanours. The meeting may also rule that the previous meeting, where Mr Makhoba’s services were terminated, was illegal and that he, Mr Makhoba, should return to his post.
Hang on for the next installement.
