Rotary Public Speaking
On April 7 the semi-finals of the Rotary daily news public speaking competition took place at St Dominics. This was a tough competition and the schools Inkamana High School, Newcastle High and Dundee High School took part. Dundee High School’s team consisted of Nomalungelo Mkhize, Trishen Pillay and Krushial Sewmangal. They addressed the problem that` teachers are teaching for the income and not the outcome and this in turn affects the learner’s marks. Dundee High managed to come first and were given the opportunity to attend the finals which are to be held at Howard college on April 13.
Sport against Pongola High
On April 9 five DHS teams gathered at a very cold and dark DHS at 4:45 am to travel to Pongola High. The road was long and misty but upon arrival we were met with friendly faces, a warm breakfast and even oranges and juice for the athletes at half time in between games. It was so refreshing to compete against a school that prides itself in being good hosts. The scores were as follows:
Hockey: 1st team won 2-1, u/16 won 2-0. Netball: 1st team won 37-2, u/14 won 18-9. Rugby: 1st team won 29-5, u/14 won 29-5.
Netball Training Camp in Port Shepstone
On March 29, the first team Netball girls attended a netball training camp in Port Shepstone at Hoêrskool Suid-Natal (Sportweni) to learn more about Netball and to improve their skills.
Hoêrskool Suid-Natal was an amazing host. The girls enjoyed their stay and training – especially the April Fool’s day. They played a total of 5 games and they won 3. They really learned a lot, like working as a team and never giving up. The girls were one of the best teams at the Sportweni camp. Many coaches loved, complimented and supported the girls.
They are looking forward to an extraordinary netball season. DHS would like to thank God for this wonderful talent and for being with the girls throughout the tournament and the parents for supporting their girls. Wishing you all the best Smurfs.
