A group of 27 pupils, identified by Lincoln Heights Secondary as Learner Educator Assistants (LEA), participated in an intensive three-day leadership course called Leadership for School Improvement.
This was hosted at Babanango Environmental Centre in January.
The opening segment, titled Getting to Know Each Other, was designed to mirror strengths and weaknesss, and resulted in stimulating discussions, reflection, and the opportunity for the LEAs to strengthen their support networks.
“Most schools are challenged with organisation and time management, and the participants were pleased to work with Andrew and Paula again on day two,” explained school representatives.
This day consisted of a compact leadership skills schedule, interlaced with physical activities.
Although the information was a lot to assimilate in a short space of time, the pupils were shown a number of ways to handle multiple leadership responsibilities.
Orienteering under the Babanango sun and ‘Stalk the Lantern’ under the night sky, demonstrated the importance of teamwork and leading well.
Day three saw pupils drawing the threads of the leadership programme into a colourful tapestry.
Here are some of the comments, made by the LEAs after their Babanango experiece:
“What an amazing three days! Fast-paced and an exceptional varity of leadership programmes strung together.”
“An amazing, fulfilling leadership course.”
“Great facilitators; they were sharp-witted, informative and engaging.”
