Battlefields Carnival – planning starts now for September

Friday evening from around 6 pm will see the Night of the Long Table – a long table being placed in Victoria Street outside the Royal Country Inn where diners will enjoy a top meal prepared by the Johannesburg Culinary School.

Plans are forging ahead for this year’s Battlefields Carnival. Last year the event was highlighted by a performance by Sipho Hotstix Mabuse and a group of top jazz musicians.
A float parade also brought the town to a standstill. However, the organising of the event was hurried and this year the organisers, Oscar Zulu and Jabulani Mthembu, want to involve other stakeholders to ensure a better and bigger carnival.
Addressing the Tourism Dundee committee, Mr Mthembu explained that the event would take place over the weekend, September 22-23.
Friday evening from around 6 pm will see the Night of the Long Table – a long table being placed in Victoria Street outside the Royal Country Inn where diners will enjoy a top meal prepared by the Johannesburg Culinary School. Musicians will entertain during the meal which will also give local aspiring chefs a chance to see the best in action.
The evening will include an arts and crafts exhibition at the Royal Country Inn and jazz musicians.
Saturday will see a float parade – which will, hopefully, attract local businesses competing for the title of best float.
The action will then move to the Oval with entertainment for children and a music show. There are plans for poetry readings and an art competition. So watch this space.
