Majuba Chaos: President calls for calm

Students urged to report to campus from tomorrow

President of the Majuba FET Campus in Dundee, Jabulani Dlamini, has called for calm following the protest action that took place at the campus this morning.

Students, who were protesting over not receiving the Government’s National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funding and lack of student accommodation, blocked the main road with rocks and hurled stones at the security.

Mr Dlamini said that the protests arose out of miscommunication. Mr Dlamini explained that he was addressing students regarding new forms they received from NSFAS and how he would not allow the campus to be closed like many others have been.

However, some students took the speech to mean that the campus would be closed and started to protest.

Thankfully no damage was done to the campus during the altercation.

Mr Dlamini urged students to report to class tomorrow, saying that work would continue as normal.

“As president of the Dundee Campus, I do my best to protect the campus and students. We know that we can’t please everyone but we came here to study so let’s do that,” he said.

Mr Dlamini urged parents and students to contact him on  078 684 7312 should they require more information.
