Action and adventure for Michaelis pupils
April 18 was a date that our Grade 5 to 7 learners had been waiting desperately for! This was the day that they would eventually go on tour. An entire week away from school is a very exciting and appealing thought for any young child.
April 18 was a date that our Grade 5 to 7 learners had been waiting desperately for!
This was the day that they would eventually go on tour. An entire week away from school is a very exciting and appealing thought for any young child. This year they were setting off for Futululu Park in St Lucia, but a few stops along the way were part of the agenda. Their first stop was at the uMgungundlovu Multimedia Centre where the state of the art centre brings the Zulu history and Kingdom alive. They then stopped off in Ulundi where they visited the Kwazulu Cultural Museum and Ondini Historic Reserve. Next on the “To Do List” was Mfolozi Game Reserve, where they were very lucky to see quite a number of rhinos as well as various other animals. Eventually after a long day of travelling they reached their destination, Futululu Park!
The learners rushed to the dorms and unpacked their goodies. After they had all settled in, an obstacle course was awaiting them! It took quite some time for the learners to settle down when it was time for bed, the day’s adventures and the excitement of the tour had certainly got the better of them. The rest of the week was jam packed with activities, such as a visit to Cape Vidal and Mission Rock, star gazing activities, studying butterflies at the Butterfly Dome, veld studies, viewing and learning about crocodiles at the Crocodile Centre, lunches on the beach, visiting a cheese farm, visiting the mouth of St Lucia’s estuary, some shopping in the village and even learning about snakes!
On the last evening it is a tradition for the various groups to present little concerts that they have been rehearsing all week. Much was learnt during this fun filled week. We would like to thank the teachers who accompanied this group for their hard work and dedication as well as the staff at Futululu Park for another enjoyable stay.
