Sarel’s Blue Lions roar in Derby Day success

Both schools had prepared hard for the clash.

After a successful Derby Day, the winter sport season has ended – sadly!. This year Sarel Cilliers hosted the annual Derby against Dundee High School. As usual, the day was filled with anticipation and nerves. Both schools had prepared hard for the clash.
Sarel Cilliers’ Blue Lions teams roared on the rugby field, netball court and on the hockey field with their teams not losing a match to old rivals, Dundee High School, in yesterday’s high-tempo Derby Day clash.
Sarel’s first rugby team ran out 39-3 winners – this after the red shirts of DHS had put in a spirited performance and even led 0-3 after the first ten minutes but the home team proved too strong at the end.
The under 14 Sarel team romped home 83-0 while the second team drew 3-3 in a nail biter. The netball girls of Glencoe were triumphant while the boys hockey teams drew 1-1 in a thriller.
Sarel congratulates all the players for their dedication and commitment that had brought this moment. The school also thanks Dundee High for their sportsmanship and great spirit. Before sharing the scores the school thanks principal, Kevin van Staden, who had supported every match, often with Mr Van Jaarsveld at his side, the coaches who had spent hours with the teams at practice, games and at selections. Mr Van der Westhuizen who made all the arrangements and managed the transport, the parents and supporters who faithfully stood by the teams and most of all the Heavenly Father who kept them healthy and safe.
