Ninth killer captured in double murder case
AFTER nearly four months of intensive investigation, the final suspect in the Van Rooyen farm attack has been captured.
This brings the total number of arrests in the heinous double murder that devastated the community to nine, following the arrest of the last suspect, who was captured and taken into custody last Thursday in Paulpietersburg.
A further firearm, believed to have been used in the vicious attack on the Van Rooyen and Lombard homestead in April, was also recovered. In total, five of the firearms used in the farm attack have now been retrieved and police are optimistic that further recoveries will be made.
The recovered weapons have been sent for forensic examination and police are awaiting ballistic results to establish if the weapons can be traced to other criminal activity.
The nine accused will appear collectively at Vryheid Magistrates Court on August 8.
Captain Attie Engelbrecht, the Investigating Officer, and his team, who have been diligent in their search for these malicious murderers, would like to thank the community for their assistance in capturing the Van Rooyen killers.
The arrest of the last remaining suspect brings to a close the first chapter in this case and authorities are one step closer to exacting justice for the families of the slain farmers.
