Police spread crime awareness in Burford community
The community was encouraged to share information with the police concerning illegal firearms and other crime-related issues
The Ladysmith SAPS Social Crime Prevention Office hosted a crime awareness campaign at Burford Community Hall on Thursday, July 28. Other state departments were part of the campaign, and crime tips and awareness was the business of the day.
Audience members were given insight into crime by the Ladysmith Station Commander, Brigadier ZO Kunene, while officers from the Ladysmith Stock Theft Unit addressed the community on stock theft issues such as early reporting of cases, theft, branding, herdsmen and safekeeping of livestock.
Members from other departments spoke about criminal activities and the youth, as well as networking with community police forums and the youth desk.
The community was encouraged to share information with police concerning illegal firearms and other crime-related issues.
The event was attended by community members and church groups, as well as pupils from nearby schools, and gifts were presented to the elderly attendees.
The Acting KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa, thanked Ladysmith SAPS for the good work they are doing for communities. “Thank you for doing a great job for the community, and everyone who attended the awareness campaign,” he said.
