A panicked uThukela are cutting water supply to town

Water-shedding is back and it is going to hurt!

In a clearly panicked bulk SMS, uThukela have announced that they are cutting the town’s water supply.

The Klip River is simply empty, say uThukela, with little water flowing down-stream. This has forced uThukela to announce drastic cuts to supply.

As from today, effective immediately, water will be cut off from 8pm every night until 4am in the morning. It will be cut at 8am to 3pm during the day.

Water will be supplied to residents for +/- 5 hours a day (times are subject to change).

The following areas will be affected: Ladysmith CBD, Observation Hill, Umkhamba Gardens, Model Kloof, Limit Hill, Danskraal Industrial, Roosboom, parts of St Chad’s and parts of Steadville.

People are urged to store enough water in their households.

uThukela have apologized for the inconvenience caused.

The town’s water supply from Spioenkop Dam is supplemented by water from the Klip River, which meets 18% of the town’s needs. When there is no water in the river, reservoirs in high-lying areas run empty…

Simply put, without the Klip River, uThukela cannot meet demand.

Areas that receive water from the eZakheni pump station will not be affected.
