UPDATE: Taxis not operating after weapons bust
All those who were arrested are believed to be involved in the ongoing taxi violence.
USERS of public transport have had to seek alternative means to get from point A to point B as public transport services have been cut off.
This follows the arrest of 94 suspects who were caught with in the possession of illegal firearms at in Blood River yesterday.
Vryheid Taxi Owner’s Association Vice-Chairman Mbatha confirmed this afternoon that all taxis were not operating today as probes into the matter were continuing.
“We are currently in a meeting with the KZN Taxi Alliance to discuss a way forward. Although most taxis were not operating at all today we are hoping that the matter will be settled by the end of the day.
Provincial SAPS Spokeperson, Lt Colonel Thulani Zwane said that the operation was initiated by the transport MEC and all those who were arrested are believed to be involved in the ongoing taxi violence.
“There was no violence today, but we are still keeping an eye out,” he said.
