The second accused in a Wembezi murder case, 22-year-old Fikelephi Ngubane, appeared in the Dukuza High Court on Tuesday (August 23) and was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment.
The crime took place on March 11 when 52-year-old Bergville resident Raymond Mabizela was lured to Wembezi.
He was lured there by his girlfriend, Fikelephi Ngubane, where he was kidnapped by Sizwe ‘Rasta’ Ntshusha, the first accused in the case. Mabizela was then brutally killed and his body dumped in the most inhumane manner.
His vehicle was used by the accused and later set alight.
Police recovered the burnt-out vehicle in the Wembezi area, after which Bergville police received a missing person’s report and began a search for the owner. But the deceased was nowhere to be found.
The partially decomposed body was recovered 13 days later by officers from the K9 Search and Rescue Unit. The body was found hidden in a sinkhole.
A case of murder was opened and five days later, the first accused was arrested.
The investigation was handled by Wembezi detectives, who successfully opposed bail and both accused remained behind bars until they were sentenced.
30-year-old Sizwe Ntshusha pleaded guilty on June 27 and the Pietermaritzburg High Court sentenced him to twenty years’ imprisonment for murder, five years for kidnapping and five years for malicious damage to property.
The sentences will run concurrently.
