Officers at police stations situated in the Uthukela Cluster were hard at work over the past weekend combating the drug trade.
15 people were arrested and over 370kg of dagga was seized, as well as several whoonga straws. The suspects, aged between 20 and 74 years old, appeared in various courts across the Uthukela Cluster on Monday and Tuesday.
Amangwe SAPS were working in the Nyezane area on Friday, August 19, when they arrested three people (aged 20, 21 and 45) who were found in possession of dagga. They continued their success on Sunday, August 21, when they arrested four more suspects (aged 30 to 74) in the Mnyangweni area for possession of dagga.
Amangwe police officers (in the attached photo) Constable Mnculwane, Constable Zuma and Constable Mpembe were patrolling at Mnyangweni Location when they received information about a homestead in which dagga was being kept. They went to the said house and upon searching the premises, police seized dagga weighing a whopping 358.3kg.
Ezakheni SAPS arrested a 50-year-old woman in the Emachibini area on Friday and a 25-year-old man in D-Section on Sunday for dagga possession.
Estcourt added to the tally by arresting a 34-year-old man in Alexandra Road, Estcourt, for a small amount of dagga.
Ladysmith SAPS followed suit and arrested a 44-year-old man at the Illing Road Taxi Rank on Friday, as well as a 23-year-old man at the Queen Street Taxi Rank for possession of dagga.
Another three suspects, in their 30s, were arrested in Parklane Road, Mason Road and the Tsakane area on Sunday for possession of dagga and whoonga straws.
