Warning: Business owners beware when buying stock

In the interests of keeping businesses safe, police would like to remind the community and especially business owners not to carry or keep large amounts of cash on their premises

Ladysmith, Estcourt, Bergville and Winterton detectives are in the process of tracing a gang of armed robbers.

The group have recently been targeting businesses and business owners in the Uthukela area who are travelling in vehicles to buy stock.

In the interests of keeping businesses safe, police would like to remind the community and especially business owners not to carry or keep large amounts of cash on their premises.

Do your banking regularly, but do not keep a set routine. Vary the days, times and vehicles used to do your banking.

Be alert to anyone taking note of your movements. When buying stock, also ensure that you vary days, times and vehicles. The fewer the people who know you are leaving to buy stock, the better.

Don’t allow anyone, including employees, to know your routine, especially when going to warehouses and when carrying cash.

Try to use other methods of payment instead of cash.
