Daylight robbery in Church Street – Armed assailants abduct Markhams employee
Staff members from American Swiss and Markhams were on their way to the bank when a silver grey Toyota, GP registration, with six men pulled up alongside them and instructed the male staff member from Markhams to get into the car.
ARMED assailants abducted a staff member from Markhams this morning near the corner of Church and High Streets in a brazen daylight robbery.
Staff members from American Swiss and Markhams were on their way to the bank when a silver grey Toyota, GP registration, with six men pulled up alongside them and instructed the male staff member from Markhams to get into the car. The female staff member from American Swiss, who was unaware that the occupants of the vehicle were, in fact, armed tried to pull him back but one of the perpetrators threatened her with a firearm.
Pro5, Link Up, Neighbourhood Watch and Vryheid SAPS responded after Cornè Koster from Pro5 alerted them of the incident.
The robbers were believed to be headed towards the cemetery along High Street, initially. However, the abducted Markhams staff member was later found near the Stilwater bypass, unharmed.
