BLAAUWBOSCH – A 27-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for the rape and assault of a 51-year-old woman.

According to SAPS Communication and Liaison officer, Lizzy Arumugam, the accused entered the victim’s house in Blaauwbosch on November 1, 2014, at around 8pm. He attempted to strangle the victim, stabbed her in the arm, and raped her.
“The accused then fled the scene, and the victim. She managed to seek help from the neighbours, who summoned the police for help.”

With the help of community members, the accused was apprehended, and finally sentenced in the Madadeni Regional Court on August 31.
