MOTORISTS are warned that, as the festive season approaches, the Vryheid Traffic Department will be hosting road blocks more frequently.
At the road blocks, motorists with outstanding warrants of arrest will be taken into custody until the money owed for the relevant traffic violation is paid.
Senior Superintendent and acting Manager for Public Safety, Kumarin Naicker, urges motorists to contact Miss T Mdlalose or Mr N Nxumalo on 034 982 2133 (ext. 2221) to find out if they have any outstanding warrants of arrest issued against them, and to make the necessary arrangements for payment.
“This will avoid you, as a motorist, being arrested and taken to court,” said Mr Naicker. “Traffic violations will be checked against the driver’s licence and if we find that you have not paid a fine, and a warrant of arrest has been issued, you will be taken into custody. Be prepared and avoid the inconvenience.”
The traffic department is currently busy finalising its road safety plan for the festive season, when all motorists are advised to exercise caution especially when faced with high volumes of traffic.
According to stats issued by the World Health Organisation, more than 1.2million people die in road traffic crashes every year.
