46 copper cable thieves nabbed by police
“Our message is clear: ‘We will not tolerate those criminals who make lives difficult for law-abiding citizen in our province."
The war against copper cable thieves continues with KZN police arresting 46 people over the last few weeks for being in possession of suspected stolen copper cables, theft of cables and other related cases. These suspects appeared in various courts in the province.
KwaZulu-Natal police in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies embarked on a number of operations last month in an attempt to clamp down on this scourge.
“The theft of copper cables, Eskom property as well as illegal connections of electricity in various areas is a concern to the police and other stakeholders. Children in other areas are being electrocuted by live wires that are being left after the suspects stole pieces of cables,” said Acting Provincial Commissioner,’ Major General Bhekinkosi Langa
“Our message is clear: ‘We will not tolerate those criminals who make lives difficult for law-abiding citizen in our province. We warn criminals who are practicing such acts to stop and failing which they will face the long arm of the law. We will also act against those who are buying, receiving and transporting such stolen copper cables. We will continue with such operations in the province in an attempt to curb theft of copper cables.
“We are also appealing to the community to report any criminals who are stealing or selling copper cables in their areas to the police or to any other law enforcement agencies for further investigation.”
