It is here at last — Dundee’s biggest tourism weekend, Talana Live, kicks off tonight with an entertaining (.30pm to 8.30pm)
“Night at the Museum” Talana Museum style – come meet our story- telling ghosts. Experience life in the Boer, British and Voortrekker camps and in the museum which comes to life after dark. Food on sale – enjoy meals from a by-gone age. Enjoy “Conversation with our ghosts” and a sing-a-long in the Boer camp. Ride the evening “Ghost Train”.
Saturday
10am to 5.30pm: Parade through Dundee led by military band, re-enactors, cultural groups, cars and motor cycles, Medical Pipe Band performances during the day, heritage games, open air chess and mlabalaba, craft and heritage stalls. militaria and book stalls, creations arts, crafts and plant market, art exhibition by talented local artists, food and beverage court, experience culture and traditions, food, dance, historical and heritage demonstrations (battle of Talana re-enactment will take place this year up the slopes of Talana hill), sign up and “join the army”, Wheels thru time” vintage and veteran cars, motor cycles, steam engines, miniature train on rails. Enjoy the rides. On Saturday evening, the Moth Shellhole museum and pub will be open for fellowship.
Sunday
8am to 1pm: 8am – 10:30am: Breakfast bar open – come out to Talana Museum and enjoy breakfast in the grounds.
8.30am Battle of Talana – guided walk and talk across the battlefield and the museum exhibits.
8:30am -9:30am Boomkerk – open air church service under the trees at the museum.
9am: View motor bikes on display. 9am-1pm:
Stalls will be open and a miniature train will be running, Art exhibition in the milk shed. 9.30am – 10am: Medical Pipe Band performance. 10am – 4pm: creations arts, crafts and plant market.10:15am – 10:35am: Choir and drumming performance by Biggarsberg Primary.10:45am – 11:30am: Walk and talk through glass gallery.
