“We are arranging a reunion for all pupils of NHS and Newcastle Senior Primary School up until 1980, plus surviving teachers.”
The seed of the reunion was planted by former Newcastillian, Temba Willemse, who currently resides in Australia.
He returns to South Africa for Willemse family reunion next year.
Mr Smith and Mr Willemse then came up with the idea of a mass reunion for NHS and NSPS pupils, schools they attended ‘back in the day’.
They hope to go far and wide with the invites.
“Many of the pupils transferred from NSPS to colleges such as Maritzburg and Michaelhouse. They would be approximately 53 years and older today, so I imagine there are quite a few.”
Mr Smith explained the reunion was tentatively set for March 11 at Lentevlei (the Brink farm), and braai fires and sides would be provided.
He hoped to see former pupils arrive from all over the world.

“We also welcome class reunions to be part of the mass reunion.”
