On the road to safety

The main reason for the association's participation in the roadblock was also to warn the public against obtaining learners and driver's licences from driving schools that are not registered

A multi-disciplinary roadblock was held along the R74 last Friday morning. Police and traffic officers were stationed at the intersection of Rensburg and Papkuilsfontein where they stopped motorists and examined vehicles as well as the contents in it.

Vehicle licenses and roadworthiness were inspected by the officers and passengers travelling by taxi were requested to disembark and their belongings were also searched.

In addition to the anti-crime and road safety aspect, members of the local branch of the KwaZulu-Natal Ubumbano Driving School Operators Association (UDSOA) were also on the road.

They handed out pamphlets to passing motorists, which reminded them of basic safety rules, like having an emergency roadside triangle in your vehicle to discouraging road rage, with a slogan: ‘Stop showing other drivers your long finer, they also have their own!’

The main reason for the association’s participation in the roadblock was also to warn the public against obtaining learners and driver’s licences from driving schools that are not registered.

Not only does this practice place lives in danger but it also disadvantages the driving schools that are legally operating.
The operation was hailed a success by the association whose message was passed onto dozens of motorists.
