Update: Court date set for Zarina Moolla’s alleged murderers
Making their first appearance before the magistrate, the suspects' case was remanded to November 29 for further investigation

The two men charged for the brutal murder of 67-year-old Mrs Zarina Moolla appeared in the Ladysmith Regional Court today (Tuesday, November 15).
Making their first appearance before the magistrate, the suspects’ case was remanded to November 29 for further investigation. Both accused (aged 26 and 27) waived their right to bail at their formal bail application.
The elderly Mrs Zarina Moolla was found dead by her domestic worker in her home in Gumtree Road, Smartiesville. Mrs Moolla had sustained multiple stab wounds and was declared dead by paramedics.
Skilled work by detectives, the Crime Intelligence Gathering (CIG) Unit and K9 Unit resulted in a breakthrough in the murder when two men were arrested within a week.
It is believed that the suspects realised the woman had been given money and they allegedly plotted to steal the money from her.
A neighbour’s son, who is one of the arrested suspects, allegedly took the keys the night of the murder to gain entry to Mrs Moolla’s house.
A source confirmed that both men complied with the officers and pointed out where the murder weapon (knife) was and the deceased’s house keys.
Money was missing from the house, according to police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.
