Share hope this Christmas

Master Builders Association has joined hands with East Coast Radio to ensure disadvantaged children will also be able to experience the joy of Christmas by supporting the East Coast Radio's Toy Story initiative.

NEWCASTLE – Christmas is a season of spreading joy and giving.

However, there are those who will not experience the merriment of opening up gifts under a decorated tree on Christmas morning, nor will they spend the time with families.

Master Builders Association has joined hands with East Coast Radio to ensure disadvantaged children will also be able to experience the joy of Christmas by supporting the East Coast Radio’s Toy Story initiative.

“It is all about giving back to the community and we are hoping other businesses and the community will follow and support us,” said Suvashna Jugernath of Master Builders Association.

Master Builders Association has not stopped with Toy Story, but will be supporting Operation Bobbi Bear as well.

Operation Bobbi Bear is a human rights organisation committed to working with and assisting sexually abused children in Amanzimtoti.

This Non-Government Organisation manages to provide a safe haven or temporary accommodation for abused children.

The organisation needs items such as clothes, shoes, linen, towels, groceries, toiletries, plasters, bandages and antibacterial cream.

For rape victims, the organisation requires rape bags and court bags.

A rape bag consists of a Teddy bear, new underwear, wet wipes, a pad, pencil crayons, a notebook, cooldrink and biscuits, as well as a permanent marker and plasters.

The permanent marker is of the utmost importance, as the child will be expected to draw on a toy bear what they have experienced.

The court bag will consist of sweets, biscuits, dried fruit and cooldrink, permanent markers, plasters, notebook, pencil, a pen, crayons and tissues.

“These children feel bad about what has happened to them and if the community does not support them, who will?” asked Miss Jugernath.

She said the community’s contribution to Operation Bobbi Bear could save a life.

“They might be thinking of ending their lives, but knowing someone cares and wants to help might stop them.”

Two separate boxes will be placed at the office of Master Builders at 52 Montague Street, for donations to Toy Story and Bobbi Bear.
