Be a vigilant shopper
"I would like to make people aware of the fact that retail stores are still over charging for products that are marked on special"
With the high cost of living, most people are aware of their spending and look out for ‘specials’ advertised by local retail stores.
But what happens when the price of the products you purchase are higher than the advertised price when you get to the till?
A resident, who says he is ‘tired of retailers robbing innocent shoppers’ would like to bring this to the attention of the public. This has happened to the resident on four occasions.
The advertised price is not reflected at the till point and in all cases, the price at the till is inflated.
“I would like to make people aware of the fact that retail stores are still over charging for products that are marked on special. Being the festive season, shoppers don’t all check their till slips before they leave the store,” commented the reader.
Examples from the resident included, lamb marked R89.99 per kilogram was charged at R99.99 when scanned at the till, 2 litre milk marked at R23.99 but the till price reflected R28.99 and bottled spices marked at R23.99 but the till price reflects R28.99.
“Beers were marked at R94.99 per eight pack. This is a rip off because you are actually paying R284.97 per case instead of paying R240.00 per case,” was another example that the resident experienced.
He urges customers to be aware and check their till slips before leaving the store.
